Having a wild time! Katie Holmes looks delighted as she takes Suri to feed giraffes at the zoo

By LEAH SIMPSON

Delighted: Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise fed giraffes at the Bronx Zoo n New York City today

Her love life could quite possibly be back on after she was pictured following a dinner date with a mystery man last night.
And Katie Holmes still appeared to be beaming today she took her daughter Suri Cruise on a trip to the Bronx Zoo.
The girls were seen feeding the giraffes along with other visitors to the New York City attraction and while the treat was probably for her child with Tom Cruise, Katie seemed the most thrilled.

Capturing the moment: The actress took pictures of her six-year-old girl feeding giraffes

The actress grinned with her tongue between her teeth as she extended branches to the animals, which can often be found on safari expeditions.
While her six-year-old little girl could be seen looking very focused on the task at hand, Holmes made sure to snap away at the precious moments on her phone, in between gasping with delight.
The brunette pulled her hair back in a messy ponytail and donned a black and white striped tank top with blue jeans for the outing.

Girls day: Katie wore a casual black and white striped top and jeans

After finalising her divorce from Suri’s actor father earlier this month, Holmes’ life just seems to be going from strength to strength.
She recently landed a role on the Broadway production Dead Accountants and last night she was accompanied by a male friend for a nice meal in the Big Apple.
Although she has been making the most of her time with Suri recently, taking her on late night ice cream trips as well as fun children’s activities during the day, Katie enjoyed some adult time.

Precious moment: Holmes has been making the most of her time with Suri around the time of her splitting with Tom Cruise

Family fun: Katie looked even more impressed than Suri did with the majestic creatures

She got dressed up and left the eatery looking jolly, a feeling that she can’t seem to shake off it seems.
Despite her personal and career successes, it would appear that Katie has decided to lie relatively low for the moment and take advantage of simple pleasures.
She has cancelled what would have been her first official public appearance since her split, at tonight's Dizzy Feet Foundation gala.

Happy: Tom Cruise also seemed in good spirits when he was spotted leaving a Malibu eatery with a huge smile on his face

Love interest? Holmes was all smiles after having a dinner date with a mystery male at Nomad in NYC last night

Making friends with Flipper: Snooki laughs in delights as she splashes about with some performing dolphins

By GEORGINA LITTLEJOHN

Talk to the animals: Jersey Shore's Snooki can't contain her delight as she larks about with some dolphins and her friend and co-star JWoww in holiday in Mexico

It's something that many of us have envisaged doing while on an exotic holiday in the sunshine.
Including Jersey Shore's Snooki, who actually got to fulfill her wish of swimming with dolphins yesterday as she took to the water to make friends.
The reality TV star, who is about four months pregnant, was snapped on holiday in Mexico with her friends and Jersey Shore co-stars, enjoying a break in the sun whilst also filming their new reality show.

Nice to meet you! Snooki is greeted by the dolphin with a huge finshake

Snooki, real name Nicole Polizzi, and JWoww, real name Jennifer Farley, were snapped in the ocean playing with friendly dolphins.
The 24-year-old mother-to-be looked delighted as one of the mammals came up and greeted her with a fin shake and then popped up out of the water to nuzzle her hand.

You're so cute! Snooki laughs as the dolphin pops out the water and nuzzles her hand

And JWoww even had the pleasure of a kiss with one of the cute creatures as she and Snooki played with them in the sea.
They are staying in Cancun, a popular celebrity holiday destination, where they are having a holiday but also filming for the new series.
Yesterday, the girls and their large camera crew took a boat to Isla Mujeres for the dolphin swimming session.

They're very friendly: Snooki looked a little unsure about the dolphins when she first got into the water...

... but soon plucked up the courage to stroke one of the pretty mammals

And they looked like they could have stayed there all day as they splashed and played about with their new friends.
Snooki announced earlier this month that she was pregnant by boyfriend Jionni LaValle.
Speaking about her pregnancy on Jersey Shore After House following the season five finale of the show, Snooki said: 'I'm only 24 so it happened kind of quick.

Forget Brad and George... the real star of the Oscars is Uggie the dog

By BAZ BAMIGBOYE

In demand: Daily Mail reporter Baz Bamigboye interviews Uggie The Jack Russell Terrier, and star of the Silent film The Artist as the pooch gets ready for the Oscars

He will not win an Oscar but the biggest star of this year’s Academy Awards is Uggie the dog.
The four-legged star of pre-Oscar favourite film The Artist was in as much demand as his human counterparts before last night’s glittering ceremony.
The 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier was the toast of Tinseltown as Hollywood prepared for its biggest night of the year.

Pampered: Uggie relaxes at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Los Angeles before his big night

‘Uggie has a schedule to rival any star in this town,’ noted Cindi Berger, chairman and CEO of PMK BNC public relations, a company which represents a bevy of major stars.
One network show was desperate to get hold of Uggie — and completely uninterested in his two-legged co-stars.

Smart: Uggie looks every inch the Hollywood star as he prepared for one of the biggest nights of his life. His pre-Oscars schedule was said to be just as hectic as major actors and actresses

Harvey Weinstein, who acquired The Artist for distribution long before its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, called Uggie his ‘secret weapon’.
‘He’s up there with the big ones,’ Weinstein declared as Uggie turned up at Weinstein’s pre-Oscar bash at the swanky West Hollywood club Soho House on Saturday night.
The popular pooch sported a leather collar with an 18 carat yellow gold bone inscribed with his name, which had been specially designed for him by Chopard the jewelers.

Big role: Berenice Bejo as Peppy Miller and Uggie the Jack Russell dog, in The Artist

He was introduced to the likes of Meryl Streep and crooner Tony Bennett.
Then yesterday the pooch arrived at the fabled Chateau Marmont Hotel on Sunset Boulevard to be primped and pampered for Oscar night although he was still deciding what Oscar night after-parties to attend.
He was accompanied by his entourage: owner and trainer Omar Von Muller; grooming consultant Michelle Day; and executive Katie Doyle from the LA office of Weinstein Co, who was ‘holding his hand’. Or paw.
First off, Uggie was given a shampoo, wash and brush. Ms Day then gave him a blow dry.
After that, he had his nails buffed. Then he lay on a bed at the Chateau and watched early arrivals on the red carpet.

Glamour: George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) and Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejol) in the pre-Oscar favourite film The Artist

After the Oscars are over, he’ll just do the occasional commercial, but no more films.
He doesn’t get out of doggie basket for less £500 an hour and is now a spokesdog for a Nintendo 3DS pet-related game, despite it being recently revealed that he suffers from a neurological disorder

Isn't he lovely! Kate can't hide her delight as she takes Lupo the pup for walkies in Kensington Gardens

By REBECCA ENGLISH

Attaboy! The Duchess of Cambridge joked with her Scotland Yard protection officer as Lupo enjoyed wandering off. She was walking through Kensington Gardens this week

He’s the pup who – until this week, at least – was one of the Royal Family’s most closely guarded secrets.
Now meet Lupo, the four-month-old cocker spaniel who has most definitely fallen on his paws after being picked as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first pet.
Walking through Kensington Gardens this week, close to the cottage she shares in the palace grounds with Prince William, Kate couldn’t hide her delight at the pup’s antics.

The future Queen laughed and joked with her Scotland Yard protection officer as the excited little dog raced around in the grass.
Although she was very much in the city, Kate looked as if she was dressed for a country hike in a pair of £225 hand-crafted Le Chameau Vierzon wellingtons, jeans and a brown shearling Darwin jacket with fur collar and cuffs from LK Bennett topped with a brown leather hat – and some heavy eye make-up.

Country chic: The Duchess wore a pair of £225 hand-crafted Le Chameau Vierzon wellingtons, jeans and a brown shearling Darwin jacket with fur collar and cuffs from LK Bennett topped with a brown leather hat

At first the couple’s spokesman refused even to confirm their pet’s existence, saying it was a ‘private matter’.
After a month-long stand-off the dog’s name finally emerged after a seven-year-old boy simply asked the duchess when she visited Rose Hill Primary School in Oxford this week on behalf of her new charity, The Art Room.
After being handed a toy dog by Abubakr Hussain, Kate said she would name it after her own pet, Lupo, which means wolf in Italian and is a derivative of the Latin word for the animal, Lupus.
Kate and William, an aide later confirmed, chose the name for their pet simply because ‘they liked it’

On the lookout: Lupo ready to pounce on slow-moving squirrels. Kate and William acquired him shortly before Christmas from a litter born to the Middleton family dog, Ella

The dog has been something of a comfort for 30-year-old Kate while her husband is on deployment in the Falkland Islands.
Indeed, she seemed without a care in the world as she strolled for more than half an hour through the 260-acre public park in the centre of London.
William’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, frequently used the gardens for walking and roller blading when she lived at the palace after her divorce from Prince Charles and there is a memorial playground to her there.

Must be his animal magnetism... Uggie, the canine star of The Artist, adds to the film's growing awards haul

By MARCUS BARNES

It's a dog's life: Uggie with Missi Pyle, James Cromwell and an unidentified woman at the first annual Golden Collar Awards held at The Century Plaza Hyatt Regency Hotel in Century City, California

So far it's been the year's big awards winner, so much so in fact that even the animal star of The Artist has picked up a gong.
Uggie the dog, who appears as Jean Dujardin's pet in the movie, picked up the animal equivalent of an Oscar at the prestigious Golden Collars.
The 10-year-old pooch was accompanied by co-star James Cromwell (who plays Clifton in the film) as he picked up the award for Best Dog in a Theatrical Film.

Man's best friend: The pooch plays Jean Dujardin's pet in award-winning film The Artist

Uggie was smartly dressed in a cute doggy outfit that mimicked a shirt and bow tie.
The little dog looked excited to be at the awards ceremony, where he was also accompanied by his owner and trainer Omar Von Muller.
Accepting the award on behalf of Uggie, Mr Von Muller said the Jack Russell terrier, who stole hearts in the silent film that’s up for 10 Academy Awards, is a 'great performer, but he’s also a great family member.'
'He sleeps with us,' Von Muller added.

Award-winning paw-formance: A campaign has been started to get Uggie an Oscar for his role in The Artist

The Golden Collar Awards, dreamed up by Alan Siskind of the website dognewsdaily.com, drew other stars of The Artist, including Cromwell and Missi Pyle.
'I’m delighted to be here because I owe my career to a pig,' said Cromwell, who played the farmer in Babe.
Elizabeth Snead, an entertainment journalist who served as a Golden Collar judge, said the dog-awards show is more exciting than the Oscars.
'She said: Everybody identifies with the dogs. And it makes it more accessible for humans who don’t really care about awards season'

Paws for thought: Uggie and Dash perform for the audience at the Golden Collar awards show

The campaign was launched in December last year, and has been supported by James Cromwell and, apparently, members of The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
However, BAFTA responded to the campaign by issuing the following statement: 'Regretfully, we must advise that as he is not a human being and as his unique motivation as an actor was sausages, Uggie is not qualified to compete for the Bafta in this category.'

The collar of money: Uggie performs one of his tricks after picking up the Best Dog in a Theatrical Film award

He did, however, with the Palm Dog Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
Sadly Uggie will retire to his bed after the Oscars, due to a mystery neurological illness that has baffled experts and cost Mr Von Muller thousands of dollars in vets' bills.
He revealed: 'It comes and goes and, ironically, it is worse when he's relaxed.
'When we were filming you could hardly notice it. It is a shame this has happened when he is getting the biggest success of his career, but we feel the best thing to do is to retire him after the Oscars.'

By LUCY BUCKLAND

Horsing around: Leona Lewis, a well known animal lover, looked stunning on a visit to Hopefield Animal Sanctuary

The stables aren't a place you would usually expect to spot a set of glamorous chart toppers.
And although Leona Lewis, Pixie Lott and former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan might not have mucked out at Hopefield Animal Sanctuary the trio helped raise valuable funds to keep the Brentwood facility open.
Bleeding Love singer Leona, 24, is an patron for the organisation and roped in some of her famous friends to help raise funds at this weekend's Christmas Fayre.
Leona roped in her friends to the event on Sunday to help raise funds for the centre which faces an uncertain future after owner Ernie Clark died from liver cancer last year aged 84.

Christmas belle: Leona Lewis looked festive on her visit with a Christmas beret

I like this one! Keisha Buchanan strokes a white horse at the Brentwood sanctuary

Leona also surprised two of the Hopefield managers by flying them over from Essex to be a part of the evening and see the work that she is doing out there whilst recording in LA.
On the charity's website Leona writes: 'Since the first day I visited Hopefield Animal Sanctuary I knew it would become a big part of my life.
'The work they are doing to save these abused and neglected animals is essential, they would simply have nowhere else to go if this sanctuary wasn’t here. At Hopefield these animals get to live out their lives peacefully and free from abuse.

Say sugar cube: Pixie Lott sports a smile as she poses next to a gorgeous white horse

'My mission at Hopefield is to make sure these animals can continue to live here, that they can live comfortably and safely, that we can build Hopefield into a sanctuary that will educate people on animal welfare and continue to save more animals in need.
'The immediate mission is to raise £100,000 by christmas! A big ask but one we can achieve by each just doing whatever we can for these animals that deserve some love.
Hopefield, which cares for 200 animals, needs to raise £1million to secure its future by buying the land it is currently based on.
Hopefield cares for a horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, geese, ducks, cats and and even chinchilla's.

Bitten by fashion: Traditional dog breeds hit by celebrity fads, led by Paris Hilton

By DAVID WILKES

Canine companion: Paris Hilton holds onto her pet Pug Mugsy - she was one of the first to display the celebrity fad of 'handbag dogs'

They are more likely to be seen poking their noses out of designer handbags than enjoying an old-fashioned muddy walk.

But the ‘handbag dogs’ made popular by Hollywood stars have helped put dozens of traditional British breeds on an at-risk list.

The otterhound, Skye terrier and field spaniel are among the most endangered types, according to the Kennel Club, which has seen only a handful of puppies of these breeds registered so far this year.

Geri Halliwell, left, and Lindsay Lohan, right, have been trend-setters in owning dogs that can be 'carried around'

Since celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Geri Halliwell rekindled the craze for miniature canine companions that can be carried around, it seems other dog owners have been persuaded to follow suit, with pugs and cavalier King Charles spaniels among the smaller breeds gaining in popularity.

However, the rise of the handbag dog has failed to end the reign of the nation’s most popular breed. Some 31,791 labrador puppies have been registered with the Kennel Club in the first three-quarters of this year.

This compares to just 21 otterhound puppies, 30 Skye terriers and 33 field spaniels. Only 39 Sealyham terriers were registered, prompting Country Life magazine to launch a campaign asking readers to save the breed.

Experts believe it is possible for endangered breeds to see a change in fortune. The popularity of Cardigan corgis has increased by 207 per cent this year, with 89 registered.

Caroline Kisko of the Kennel Club said: ‘Celebrity dog choice and the subsequent profile that a breed gets is a big factor driving the upsurge of popularity in certain breeds.

‘So-called handbag dogs, popularised by celebrities such as Paris Hilton, have seen a big increase in recent years. It is a shame to see that this tendency for following fashion and going for the obvious choice mean that many of our native breeds are failing to get a look in. People have lost all knowledge about the huge variety of breeds out there.’

Tulisa, X Factor judge manages to stay in control of her overeager rottweiler

By MARCUS BARNES

Mellow yellow: The X Factor judge wore a bright babydoll dress for her visit where she met with members of her group

X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos proved she's as tough as she acts today when she kept a firm hold on her pet rottweiler.

The north-London born singer, 23, held tight on the dog's lead as she paid a visit to the contestants from her group at the house they share.

Tulisa's dog is still a young puppy, but they are bred to be strong and could easily have dragged the pint-sized singer to the ground.

Here boy!: Tulisa Contostavlos arrives at the X Factor house with her pet rottweiler managing to keep a firm grip on the puppy

However, she kept the pooch under control and kept her cool as she walked the eager dog into the house.

She wore a cute bright yellow babydoll dress and sparkling flip flops for the visit.
Her appearance came as news broke that one of her groups could face legal action over their stage name.

On to a lead: The N-Dubz singer kept her pooch in check while making her way into the house

Under fire: A charity is threatening Rhythmix with legal action over their name

A charity bearing the same name as Rhythmix is seeking legal advice after its name was adopted by X Factor band.

The manufactured girl group made it through to the live shows after their mentor Tulisa put them in her final four at the judges' houses.

But now the name the girls chose for their band at boot camp is being contested by a leading music charity which shares the same name.

Kim Kardashian has a whale of a time (in impossibly high heels) as she joins Kourtney and little Mason at the aquarium

By LAURA SCHREFFLER

Keep up! Kim Kardashian wore seriously high heels for a day out with sister Kourtney and nephew Mason Dash Disick at the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut yesterday

Kim Kardashian may now be a married woman who wants children of her own, and today got a taste of parenting life on a family trip to an aquarium.

The 30-year-old reality star enjoyed some time away from New York City yesterday when she, sister Kourtney and nephew Mason Dash Disick took a field trip in Mystic, Connecticut.

From the sound of things, the brunette beauty had a fabulous time away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, though she may have not have been dressed entirely appropriately to play with marine animals.

Animal magnetism: The newlywed got to bond with Rocky the Beluga whale

While her dress may have had a 'mystical' flair, her outrageously high heels must have made walking nearly impossible.

Still, the newlywed seemed to have had an amazing time, if her tweets were any indication.

'Drove out to Mystic, CT & took Masey to the Aquarium here! I love it here! We touched penguins, sharks, sea lions & even a whale!!!' she wrote.

Let me touch him! Kim took a hands on approach

'Thanks for the memories Mystic, Connecticut! The aquarium and seaport were very special! @KimKardashian and I enjoyed,' the diminutive Kardashian tweeted of her day.

In addition to playing with seahorses, the trio got to see seals up close and even stroke 'Rocky' the Beluga whale.

Pigs do fly! Iconic porker floats above Battersea power station again to celebrate 35 years of Pink Floyd album

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Hamming it up: The Pink Floyd balloon pig hovers over Battersea Power Station today

Pink Floyd's iconic flying pig has made a comeback - 35 years after it caused chaos by escaping into the skies over London.

A new 30-foot, helium-filled balloon floated high above Battersea Power Station to mark the reissue of the band's 14 studio albums.

But unlike its famous predecessor, this pig remained firmly tethered to the ground.

Sow big: The 30ft monster is firmly tethered, unlike the original which escaped over London in 1976 and caused chaos

The original balloon, Algie - designed by band founder Roger Waters - broke free from its moorings during a photo shoot for the cover of the hit album Animals in 1976.
Plans had been made to fly Algie over Battersea on the first day of the three-day shoot, with a marksman ready to blast it out of the sky if things went wrong, but the pig was not launched.

On the second day, organisers had forgotten to book the marksman - and Algie made its bid for freedom. A strong gust of wind snapped the tether and the pig shot skywards, drifting off south over London.

Double take: The original Animals album cover from 1977 (left) and the new shoot on Monday

The pig disappeared from sight within five minutes and was soon spotted by startled airline pilots at 30,000 feet.

Flights to and from Heathrow Airport were cancelled as Algie flew through the path of passenger aircraft. The balloon headed out towards the coast before crash-landing at a farm in Kent that night.

The pig was recovered and repaired so the photo-shoot could resume. but by the time he was brought back to Battersea, the cloudless, blue sky was deemed too 'boring'. So what Floyd fans eventually got was a composite picture.
