Oscar and out for Hollywood's top dog: Little star of the big screen bow wows out due to mystery illness

No wonder they look so doggone miserable.
Just as Uggie the Jack Russell has become a Hollywood star thanks to his antics in silent movie The Artist, his film career is over.
The ten-year-old has a mystery illness which means he is to be retired after an appearance at the Oscars this month.Uggie is expected to open the show alongside host Billy Crystal.

‘He is suffering from a shaking syndrome,’ said trainer Omar Von Muller, 49.
‘We’ve spent thousands trying to figure out what is causing it but the experts don’t really know. All the vets can tell us, after all the scans and tests, is that it is neurological and he is not suffering.’
‘He started shaking shortly before The Artist began filming in November 2010. It comes and goes and, ironically, it is worse when he’s relaxed. When we were filming you could hardly notice it.’
While it is not unusual for Jack Russells to shiver, his trainer described the symptoms as ‘abnormal’.

Uggie has become one of the biggest showbusiness stories of the year and now has his own Twitter page following his life at red-carpet events and on TV shows, including a recent guest spot on The Graham Norton Show.

Story of world's first 'bionic' dolphin and his prosthetic tail is to become Hollywood blockbuster... and it's going to be in 3D

Dolphin Tale: Winter's life will be documented in a new Hollywood movie which will be shown in the UK in October



Watching her swim through the water you would think she's like any other dolphin, doing backflips and splashing around in her pool.



But this is Winter, the world's first bionic dolphin, whose heartwarming story has inspired a Hollywood blockbuster.



At just two months old she lost her mother and her tail in a crab trap.

After 18 months of painstaking work, £150,000 and nearly 50 prototypes, the pair managed to create a 30 inch silicone tail.



Winter, who only wears the limb for a few hours a day, wouldn't survive in the wild and constantly needs a replacement limb as she grows.



Staff at the aquarium also spend hours massaging her muscles every day to ensure she is comfortable.



Visitors have also been inspired by Winter and a number of servicemen who have been injured in Iraq and Afghanistan have benefited from the work done by Mr Carroll.



Because Winter's skin is so sensitive, a special gel had to be created so that the fake limb wouldn't irritate her.



The gel has been so successful it is now being used for humans too.

Brian Kolfage, who lost both legs and his right hand in Iraq, had such a severe reaction to the fake limbs he was unable to use them. But because of the breakthrough cream he is now able to walk again.



Young children visiting Winter are also inspired and find the courage to deal with their own deformities after meeting the inspirational dolphin.



Hannah Jenkins, 12, who was born without a left hand and forearm, said Winter helped her realise she too could survive.



Winter may never be the most elegant dolphin but, as she splashes about in the aquarium, it is safe to say that she probably doesn't care.



Dolphin Tale, directed by Charles Martin Smith, will be released in the UK in 3D this October.

But it wasn't Crystal's outfit that stole the show at the premiere of the Hangover 2 last night, but the fact she's a monkey.

The newest cast member of the hotly anticipated sequel to the The Hangover made quite an impact on her arrival in Hollywood.

Dressed in a glamorous gown, Crystal worked the black carpet like a pro and was quick to put her cast members in the shade in their unsightly selection of suits.

The movie's four male leads arrived to excited cheers from awaiting fans, but their choice of two-piece suits left a lot to be desired.

Premiere guests descended on the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles and could not wait to be one of the first to see the movie's sequel.

Funny man Zach Galifianakis joined his three male co-stars on the black carpet in a less than sophisticated 80's style shiny grey suit.

But before the fashion police could descend on the bearded comic, heart throb Bradley Cooper raised the bar by joining him on the red carpet in a nasty double-breasted brown version.

Not one to make his co-stars look bad, The Office star, Ed Helms arrived in an equally undesirable pink and blue tartan tie teamed with a powder blue suit.

Whoever was responsible for dressing the film's leading men was surely off sick yesterday, so it's a good job Crystal was on hand to distract guests in her miniature gown.

Fortunately, the female cast members also helped to tip the balance nicely when they arrived in a glittering selection of gorgeous evening gowns.

One of film's leading ladies, Sasha Barrese, who looked radiant in a red and white print mini dress and showed off her long, tanned legs with a pair of towering nude high heels.

She was joined in the style-winning stakes by Forgetting Sarah Marshal star, Kristen Bell, who looked sensational in a layered peach and grey cocktail dress.

Kristen's envious ensemble was clearly a little too much for Crystal the monkey to bare as she later attacked the blonde actress when she jumped up onto her shoulders and ruffled her perfectly styled hair.

Fortunately, his gorgeous wife, Susan, joined the other female guests with her choice of stylish, black cocktail dress and glossy, tousled locks.

The exciting sequel sees the four male leads take a trip to Thailand to celebrate Stu's wedding.

Given the mayhem they encountered during their bachelor party jaunt to Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has planned a sedate, pre-wedding 'brunch' for the guys to toast his imminent nuptials.

Needless to say, Bangkok had bigger plans for the foursome as they embark on another chaotic string of comical, drunken escapades.

How frilling: Anne Hathaway reveals her slender legs in short lace dress at premiere of animated film Rio

Being an animated movie, we only get to hear her voice in the film.

But it was different story at the premiere of Rio last night where Anne Hathaway took every opportunity to show off her incredible figure.

The actress revealed her toned legs in a short white frilly dress which she teamed with towering heels for the event in Rio de Janeiro.

She was also joined by her co-stars, including Jesse Eisenberg, Jamie Foxx and Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am, who contributed to the soundtrack.

Brazilian director Carlos Saldanha's newest 3-D animation feature,Rio, is a tribute to his home town's natural beauty and upbeat approach to life.

Saldanha left Rio more than 20 years ago to try his luck as an animator in the United States.

After scoring hits such as Ice Age, the director returned to his roots to tell the story of the rare blue macaw, Blu, who was born in Brazil but raised in frigid Minnesota, where he never learned to fly.

In the movie, which opens in Brazil on Tuesday and on April 15 in the United States, Blu travels to Rio de Janeiro after his owners learn that a female blue macaw has been discovered there.

Blu, voiced by Jesse Eisenberg, meets the spunky Jewel, voiced by Anne Hathaway.

Together they escape animal traffickers, get in a brawl with monkeys, and fall in love as Blu learns to fly and rediscovers himself among sweeping views of the city.

'This is a beautiful present to Rio de Janeiro,' said Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto, who, as the voice of a toucan in the movie, had to sing 'The girl from Ipanema' off-key - something she says was very difficult.

The sound track included will.i.am as well as Brazilian musicians Carlinhos Brown and Sergio Mendes.

One of the challenges, Saldanha said, was showing a Rio that was accessible to those who've never seen the city, but that still felt authentic to those who know it well.
'I hope this movie does it justice,' he said.

He did concede to making one change in his portrayal of the city to suit foreign audiences: a small readjustment to the size of Brazil's notoriously small bikinis in the movie's animated beachscapes.

'You cannot show everything,' he said. 'This movie was made for the world. I had to adjust. But at the end of the day, everything is as authentic as it can be.'
